BAW - Editing Navigation Menus

Introduction

1) Your navigation displays on your website at the top, with your main navigation links visible.

2) If you hover over them you'll see the drop-down menus, which are your sub-navigation links.

3) You can click on any of the main- or sub-navigation links to take you to that page of your website.

4) This left pane in the BAW tool is where you can edit your navigation links. You'll see you have two lines, or levels.

5) The first level, the outer line, displays your main navigation links – "Home", "About Us", "Services we Provide" and so on.

6) The second level is for your sub-navigation links, which will sit under the main navigation links in those drop-down menus. What you see in this pane will be visible on your website wherever your navigation is displayed. You can click on any of the links in this pane to be taken to that page of your website.

7) You'll notice that the top section, "Main Menu" is for your main navigation links.

8) You also have a section for your footer links which display at the bottom of the webpage.

9) There's also a section for hidden pages which will not be accessible to anyone just browsing your website, unless you have linked to them in your content.

Adding a page

1) You can add a page easily by clicking this "Add Page" button at the top of the navigation pane.

2) A form will appear in the main window of the browser – this is where you will add the contents for your new page.

3) The top field is for you to enter the page title.

4) The second field, "Menu Item", is a drop-down menu. In this menu you can choose if you want the page to be a main navigation page or a sub-navigation page. If you want it to be a main navigation page, choose the "Menu Item Root" option.

5) If you want it to be a sub-navigation page, choose the main navigation page that you want it to display under.

6) There is a check box next to the "Menu Item" field labelled "Hidden Menu". If you don’t want to display this page as part of the navigation, click this box.

7) You'll see that the "Menu Item" field disappears. This option is handy if you want to display this page as a link from another webpage, but not in your navigation menus. It will not be accessible without either the page's URL or until you create a link for it on another page.

8) The final field is for you to add the content of the new page. Add your content, or you can come back to this page and add the content later.

9) When you're done, click "Save".

10) If you chose to display the page on your website, it will appear under the "Main Menu" section of the navigation pane and also in the navigation pane on your website.

11) If you chose to hide the page, it will appear in the navigation pane under "Hidden".

Editing navigation pages

1) If you want to edit your navigation pages, hover over the one you want to edit and click on the first icon, which says "Edit name".

2) A number of options appear. The first field is for you to change the name of the page.

3) Type in your text in the field and then click on the save icon.

4) This will change the name of the page in your navigation automatically – see how "Our Services" is now displayed in the navigation in place of "Services we Provide".

5) The next field you can edit when you click the "Edit name" icon is to link to an external URL. Enter the URL of the page into this field.

6) When you're done, click on "Save".

7) Now when you go to that page in your navigation and click on it, it will open a new tab in your browser and take you to that external website.

8) If you're not ready to display the page on your website because you want to update it again before it goes live, just click on the "Edit name" icon.

9) Next, uncheck the box that says "Publish".

10) Once you press save, that page will be unpublished on your website.

11) If you go to your website, you will not see that page in your navigation. However, it will still be a part of your navigation section – just in red as you see here.

12) To turn the page back on so it appears in your navigation, click on "Edit name" again.

13) Check the box next to "Publish".

14) Then click "Save".

15) Once that's saved, your page will be visible in your navigation again.

16) If you want a link to open a PDF document instead of navigating to another webpage, click the "Edit name" icon.

17) Then check the "Link PDF" checkbox.

18) A field will appear, which you can either drag and drop a file on to or click it to select a file from your computer.

19) Once your file has uploaded, click on the save icon and it will save your changes.

20) If you've chosen to display the link to your PDF in your navigation, when you go to the link and click on it, the PDF will appear in a new tab.

Moving navigation pages

1) To move any of the navigation pages, just click on the page and hold down the mouse button.

2) Drag and drop the page to the preferred location.

3) Wait for it to save, and when it has you'll see that the changes will have automatically updated in your navigation.

Deleting a page

1) To remove a page from your navigation, hover over the page you want to delete.

2) Then click on the "Delete Page" icon that looks like a trash can.

3) A box will appear which will ask you if you're sure you want to delete the page. Click on yes and wait for the page to reload.

4) You'll notice that page is now removed from your navigation menu and from the navigation pane.
